'Excellent' player already in talks to join cup winner just days after Everton departure -…

Everton’s squad will be looking very different next season, with several players set to leave the club – with Asmir Begovic already confirmed as one outgoing player.

The Toffees will be in the Premier League once again, and in the end there were no fears about relegation thanks to a huge impact by David Moyes.

But Everton fans want to see the club kick on now.

And the process of shaping the squad has already begun with a handful of players having already been confirmed as leaving.

Abdoulaye Doucoure is leaving Everton despite being offered fresh terms, and could potentially be heading to Saudi Arabia.

Before that though, Everton confirmed a triple exit with Ashley Young, Joao Virginia and Ashley Young all departing the club this summer.

And it looks as though Asmir Begovic may soon have a new club.

Begovic signed for Everton in 2021 on an initial 12-month contract, with the option for a further year.

He will leave the club in the summer, having made 10 appearances for the club, although he could perhaps make it 11 this weekend in Everton’s final game against Newcastle United.

It’s unclear yet what David Moyes will do, but with both Begovic and Virginia leaving and Everton definitely coming 13th in the Premier League no matter what, it’s not out of the question he could give each of them a half.

But it seems Begovic may move on to a new club pretty quickly once the Newcastle game is out of the way.

Italian journalist Lorenzo Lepore has claimed on X that Begovic is currently in talks with FK Sarajevo about joining them as a free agent.

He wrote: “#FKSarajevo are internally exploring the possibility of appointing Asmir #Begović as their new goalkeeper. Initial contact has already been made with the Bosnian international, and talks are progressing. @BalkansSports_”

Should he make the move, then Begovic will walk straight into a winning dressing room, after FK Sarajevo won the Bosnia and Herzegovina Football Cup, beating Široki Brijeg 5-1 on aggregate in the final.

Interestingly, Begovic has a goalkeeping academy called the ‘AB1 Academy’, and one of his camps is in Sarajevo in his homeland of Bosnia.

Begovic a great servant to Everton

Begovic didn’t play too much for Everton but he was never going to and he knew his role when he joined.

But the veteran was generally always quite reliable when called upon, and was an important player in the dressing room in terms of his character, leadership and professionalism.

A beautiful farewell to Goodison Park. An incredible occasion for all Evertonians and very blessed to have been a part of it all.

Indeed, Jarrad Branthwaite did describe Begovic as a ‘leader’, when asked to pick one word to describe each of his teammates earlier this year.

Kevin Thelwell described Begovic as an ‘excellent goalkeeper’ when he re-signed for the club last summer, and it’s difficult to disagree with that and the fact he’s had a solid career.

Hopefully, he’ll see some involvement on Sunday, and he will then leave with the best wishes of Evertonians everywhere.
