The Europa League final for Manchester United was a tough pill to swallow. They lost to Tottenham Hotspur, but could the outcome have differed if they had access to a player not currently at the club?
Aside from Leny Yoro who was excellent, Manchester United players didn’t turn up for arguably the biggest game in the club’s recent history.
Andre Onana was pretty woeful, Bruno Fernandes not his usual self – but let’s be honest – not many United players stood out against Spurs.

United were crying out for a catalyst to change the game. Ex-Red Devil and Manchester United academy graduate Demetri Mitchell thinks one man would’ve been ideal for that job.
Demetri Mitchell says Marcus Rashford would’ve helped in the Europa League final
Mitchell says his former United teammate, Marcus Rashford, would have been a ‘good option’ for Ruben Amorim’s side in the Europa League final.
Rashford, of course, has been one of Manchester United’s most dangerous attackers in recent years, but is currently on loan at Aston Villa – and hence not available for Amorim.
Mitchell is probably right. Marcus’ pace would have caused Spurs problems. Problems that the starting front three of Mason Mount, Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund – did not.

Mitchell claims Man United side under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer betters the current
Mitchell, who appears to be an avid United in Focus reader given the graphic used, also stated that a side with the likes of David de Gea, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and more would be better than Amorim’s current XI.
Whether this is true remains a little more dubious. The side Mitchell presents would have aged dramatically, and most were sold by the Red Devils due to poor performances on the pitch.
Alas, one thing is for certain, the current squad isn’t performing to its potential – and that simply has to change in the summer.
