Manchester United are in need for some new players in the summer transfer window

The Champions League finalists, according to Fichajes, are said to have already made contact with the 17-year-old’s representatives as they look to build for the future at the Parc des Princes. Luis Enrique’s side are well stocked in the forward positions but would like to bring Mastantuono on board for him to gain experience alongside the likes of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Ousmane Dembélé.

Mastantuono plays for Argentinian giants River Plate and has a release clause of £38m (€45m) in his contract with the South American club. River Plater are not willing to enter negotiations for the young star and will not let him leave unless the release clause is activated.

Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan have also been linked with a move for the player as United face serious competition for his signature. Real Madrid had previously been linked but appear to have backed out of the running.

Man Utd ‘intend’ to pay £38m release clause for Franco Mastantuono

Reports last month from Argentina claimed United had outlined their intention to meet the £38m release clause for the player. TyC Sports reported in late April United had ‘already stated that they are willing to exercise the €45 million buyout clause, albeit in instalments’.

If River Plate agreed to United paying for Mastantuono in instalments, it could still make a deal possible this summer. United will also be hoping to sell the likes of Marcus Rashford, Antony and Jadon Sancho in order to raise more transfer funds for Ruben Amorim.

Franco Mastantuono hailed as a real star by Chelsea midfielder

At the age of 17, Mastantuono is already making waves in his homeland. He has scored 10 goals in 60 games as well as providing seven assists. And Chelsea’s Argentina international Enzo Fernandez believes the player is poised for a move to Europe.

“He’s showing that he has a European future,” Fernandez said of the young star in an interview wit ESPN F 12.

“You can see it. He’s an incredible player. He’s doing very well and has shown great talent. In my opinion, he’s a star. I wish him the best and hope he can achieve all his goals. Hopefully he can also help us in the national team.”
