Report: Man Utd stars 'unhappy' and want Amorim gone as big squad divide emerges

A number of Manchester United players feel Ruben Amorim is too over-confident in his approach and have reservations about the Portuguese manager remaining in charge if he continues with the same tactical system, MailOnline journalist Chris Wheeler has revealed.

The Red Devils saw their hopes of European football next season officially ended with a narrow 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

While the defeat has not necessarily prompted a shift in the thinking of Old Trafford chiefs, who are still backing Amorim, players are reportedly ‘split’ over their support of the head coach.

Although several first-team stars, including Bruno Fernandes, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw, backed him publicly after the game, others are said to be losing confidence in the Portuguese boss' approach.

‘He’s not going to change the way he plays’

According to Wheeler, some United players 'cannot understand' why Amorim places so much faith in a system that does not suit the squad, with one insider saying:

“He’s not going to change the way he plays and the players aren’t happy about that, it’s just not working.”

The Red Devils have lost 16 of their 41 games since Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag in November and are now heading for their worst Premier League finish ever.

They sit 16th in the table with one game to play and have not won any of their last eight top-flight matches.

United have also missed out on European football for the first time since the 2014/15 campaign following their Europa League final loss to Spurs, who ended their 17-year wait for a trophy on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils face Fulham at home in their final game of the Premier League season on Sunday.
