'Wants an agreement in place' - Bayern insider says Wirtz wants to sign for Liverpool by start…

Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz is leaning towards a move to Liverpool this summer, insider Bayern Space has revealed.

The Germany international has reportedly ‘given his word’ to the Premier League champions and wants the move to be practically sealed before the Nations League finals in June.

Wirtz’s decision to join the Reds would be a major blow to Bundesliga winners Bayern Munich, who had the 22-year-old attacking midfielder earmarked as their top target to bolster Vincent Kompany's squad.

Liverpool are expected to break the British transfer record with the signing of Wirtz next month, with Leverkusen reportedly demanding €150m (£126m) for the German superstar.

According to Bayern Space, Wirtz wants an agreement in place between Liverpool and Leverkusen before joining the national team next month.

The 22-year-old is ‘already anticipating’ heavy media pressure upon his arrival in Munich with the Germany squad and wants to avoid further distraction by sealing a move to Anfield beforehand.

Liverpool are believed to have moved ‘smartly and quietly’ for Wirtz in recent days and also want to complete the deal early for him to join alongside his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong.

The Dutch wing-back is now expected to become the Reds’ first summer signing and would arrive as a direct replacement for Real Madrid-bound Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Wirtz has developed into one of the best attacking midfielders in the world during his five-year stint at Leverkusen and led the club to their first-ever Bundesliga title last season.

The 22-year-old, who joined Leverkusen from Koln in 2020, has just over two years left on his contract, which runs until June 2027.
