Report: What Newcastle United are now saying about Alexander Isak needing surgery as Everton…

Newcastle United face a money-spinning showdown with Everton on Sunday.

The final day of the Premier League season will see Newcastle United host Everton in a game that will have major implications on the Champions League race.

If Eddie Howe’s side win, they will confirm a place in next season’s Champions League. If they don’t, then it’s the Europa League that will most likely await.

With that in mind, there’s an awful lot of attention on Alexander Isak. Isak missed Newcastle’s defeat at Arsenal with a groin injury, and Callum Wilson struggled up front.

Sweden have called Isak up for their friendlies in June but reports from The Daily Mail are slightly more concerning.

Alexander Isak an injury doubt for Newcastle United vs Everton

They claim that Isak remains a doubt for Howe’s side.

It’s said that the 25-year-old’s chances of making the game are “50/50” and the fact he was called up by Sweden has little bearing on his fitness for Sunday’s showdown.

The striker isn’t definitely out, however. The report adds that Isak will need to prove his fitness over the coming days and there is a hope the tightness in his muscle will subside.

It’s also claimed that talk of Isak potentially needing surgery at the end of the season has been played down.

Whether Alexander Isak has played his last game for Newcastle United

If he’s out on Sunday, many rival fans will be hoping the striker has played his final game for the club.

Arsenal want to sign Isak, although actually doing so looks difficult regardless of what happens in the Champions League battle.

Newcastle have told Isak he won’t be sold this summer and, with three years to go on his contract, there’s little reason as to why they would need to go back on that stance.

In an ideal world, Isak would be fit for Sunday and score the goals Newcastle need to qualify for the Champions League.

Even if he isn’t, however, Newcastle can still seemingly look forward to having him up front next season.
