Liverpool boss Arne Slot expressed his hope Trent Alexander-Arnold will get the 'reception he deserves' ahead of his final appearance for the club this weekend.

The Reds finish the season at Anfield against Crystal Palace on Sunday, which will conclude with Virgil van Dijk lifting the Premier League trophy.

It will likely be an emotional fixture for Alexander-Arnold, with the full back set to play his final match for the club before leaving when his contract expires this summer.

Alexander-Arnold, who is expected to join Real Madrid, has faced a backlash from some Liverpool supporters for his decision to leave.

During Monday's defeat to Brighton, Alexander-Arnold appeared distant as he stood with his hands on his hips as Liverpool players applauded their fans post-match.

Some Liverpool fans suggested the academy graduate may have been regretting his decision to leave his boyhood club, with Alexander-Arnold having been booed by sections of their supporters during recent appearances.

Speaking to the BBC, Liverpool boss Slot expressed his hope that he could influence fans ahead of their final match to ensure Alexander-Arnold receives a warm send off.

'All have worked so hard, not only this season, but throughout their careers to achieve something like this. They did this for themselves, but partly also driven by our fans.

'It would be fantastic, if it's only going to be a positive moment for everyone at the club, and Trent is part of that.

'I hope I can influence them, but they have their own opinion as well.'

Should Alexander-Arnold feature against Crystal Palace on Sunday, he would be make his 354 appearance for the club.

Liverpool full back Andy Robertson had also paid a glowing tribute to Alexander-Arnold this week and defended the star following recent boos.

'My brother, where to even start! It has been an absolute privilege watching you grow from a boy to a man over these last 8 years,' he posted on Instagram.

'You have won it all and created amazing memories along the way. I want to thank you for constantly pushing me to new limits and setting the bar so high that I had no choice but to follow.

'You are going to be a huge miss around the training ground and an even bigger miss on the pitch. I hope all the hard work you have put into this club, the moments you have given us and the massive contribution you have made are recognised as they should be…..

'Wingmen one last time.'

Meanwhile, last week Alexander-Arnold enjoyed a Liverpool farewell party with a lavish personal summer festival with a band, flamethrowers, bars, and barbecue food at the club's AXA Training Centre.

The fun didn't stop there, with beach games, a kids' zone, fairies on stilts, crazy golf, and even cakes dedicated to him under the party's 'Summer of 66 (his shirt number)' theme.
