Aston Villa midfielder Enzo Barrenechea has given a clue about his future at Valencia after sending a short message to fans following a team meal at the Spanish club.
That’s [according to Estadio Deportivo](https://www.estadiodeportivo.com/futbol/valencia/barrenechea-una-pista-sobre-futuro-20250521-495991.html), who cover the player and think he’s hinted he won’t be returning from Aston Villa.
Barrenechea has been on loan at Valencia since the summer, with Aston Villa electing to send him out to continue his development away from Villa Park.
He’s been a hit at the Spanish club and Valencia fans have called for his move to either be extended or made permanent. There’s no indication of either happening as yet.
Instead, he seems destined to return to Aston Villa, with it reported that Unai Emery wants to take a look at him before deciding what happens next.
In the meantime, Barrenechea recently attended a meal held by the Valencia playing staff, something which served as an opportunity for those departing to say goodbye also.
Upon leaving, he exchanged shirts with goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who is moving to Liverpool. He then offered some farewell remarks stating that he will always be “very grateful to Valencianism”. This is being seen as him saying goodbye permanently.
Estadio then say it’s up to Aston Villa what happens next. Unai Emery and Monchi must decide what to do with the midfielder, with everything currently pointing at him not being in their plans.
That won’t get him closer to Valencia, though, as the Villans are debating between a new loan at a team competing in Europe or a permanent transfer that helps them recoup their investment.
The Spanish side can’t offer either, the latter because Peter Lim wouldn’t sanction such an expensive deal unless there was a major surprise. Thus, Barrenechea’s words are being seen as goodbye, although his Villa future is far from certain either.
