Mohamed Salah has played his part in another Premier League title win for Liverpool

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah wasn't sure he would be able to win the title with the Reds this season, but a fast start proved he'd be able to hit the highest of heights. The Egyptian played a key part in the team's triumph under Arne Slot, though, and is now ready to do it again after agreeing a contract extension.

Salah has led the Premier League for both goals and assists this season, helping Arne Slot clinch his first title as Liverpool boss before the end of April. His form saw him named the Football Writers' Association's Footballer of the Year, and spoke after winning the award for the third time in his career.

“Winning the Premier League and to have had that impact in the team, I have never felt that happiness in the club,” the former Roma star said. “That moment winning the Premier League against Spurs, to have (had) that impact with the number of goals and assists. (Also) winning the Premier League after that great players left and a good manager left also, it is so special.

“When I came into the season, it was like: ‘okay, will I be able to do it again?’ I had that conversation with myself. I said: ‘okay, let’s find out’. It was like: ‘okay, you need to work hard, to set the example,’ (so) I was doing my job and I think I did it very well.

“We have a very good group of players and a very good manager. We started the season well and now we won the Premier League. Hopefully we can win the Premier League again and also the Champions League.”

Salah already has the highest goals and assists tally in Premier League history. The previous record stood at 44, but he passed the tally with his assist for Luis Diaz against West Ham in mid-April before extending the record with a goal against Tottenham at the end of the same month.

He now has 28 goals and 18 assists, with just the final match of the season against Crystal Palace to come. It's already his second-best season in terms of goals, though it would take something special to match the 32 he ended with in 2017-18.

Salah has a chance to bring up 10 years as a Liverpool player following his contract extension, and spoke about his targets after putting pen to paper in April “Of course I’m very excited. We have a great team now. Before also we had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football," he said.

“It’s great, I had my best years here. I played eight years, hopefully it’s going to be 10. Enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I had the best years in my career.

“I would like to say to [the fans], I am very, very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe we can win a lot of big trophies together. Keep supporting us and we’ll give it our best, and hopefully in the future we’re going to win more trophies.”
