Heading into the summer, Arteta is set to have a busy transfer window, as he aims to build a squad that is capable of winning their first league title since 2003/04. But before he does that, the Arsenal boss will need to work out what went wrong this season for his side.
Former Premier League midfielder Yohan Cabaye has said that two players badly damaged Arsenal’s chances of winning the league, due to their fitness this season.
Speaking to listofsweepstakescasinos.com, the former Newcastle and Crystal Palace midfielder said: “It’s hard to say exactly why, but perhaps they suffered most from the injury to their attackers: Gabriel Jesus, and then Kai Havertz have been out injured for big parts of the season.
“Missing those two players will have hurt them, and apart from that, they’ve played well with the game plan they have from Mikel Arteta.”
“They also have brought through and bought a lot of youngsters, so maybe they have suffered from a lack of experience this year. If they keep working hard though, the talent is there, and I think they will have success soon.”
Arsenal set to add more depth up front
Following the injuries to Havertz and Jesus, many have been critical that the Gunners didn’t sign a striker both last summer and in the January transfer window.
They are set to address the issue this summer however, as they have been strongly linked to signing Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres.
The previous dream target was Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, however, seeing as it looks like the Magpies will probably qualify for the Champions League, the Sweden international likely won’t be leaving St James’ Park this summer.
