Why Harry Kane could return to Premier League in 2026

There continues to be some degree of speculation over when Harry Kane might return to the Premier League.

The England international struggled to see his goalscoring prowess rewarded in the English top-flight.

Tottenham found themselves “nearly men” at every available opportunity. Spurs came seven points short of Chelsea in the 2016/17 Premier League title race and lost to Liverpool in the 2018/19 Champions League final.

Which begs the question as to why Kane would be in any hurry to return to the English top-flight.

There is a very realistic possibility that the Englishman could cement himself in Premier League lore by beating Alan Shearer’s goals record.

However, with one first piece of silverware under his belt at Bayern, there’s already a hunger for more in Bavaria.

Now, a Champions League win will be the next target for Harry Kane ahead of the 2025/26 season.

“I think the prospect of breaking Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record is still in Harry Kane’s head. Bayern Munich are aware of this, which is why his contract contains a release clause that would allow him to return to England (and hands Tottenham a matching right),” Christian Falk exclusively informed CF Bayern Insider.

“But at the moment, the Englishman has big targets he wants to achieve with Bayern. He now has his first title with the club, and Kane has already said that he’s thinking about the next possible titles. He wants to win the Champions League with Bayern. The club, of course, wants to achieve this with Harry in Budapest next year. I think he could return to England if Bayern Munich wins the Champions League in 2026. This is just an idea for the summer the year before his contract ends in 2027.

“That said, it still depends to a certain degree on how competitive Bayern are in future. I don’t think Harry Kane will leave if he sees a chance to win the Champions League in 2027. This all depends on whether he’s still in good shape and what Bayern win next year. There is an opportunity, but nothing is guaranteed.”

Bayern have bigger problems

Rest assured that the 31-year-old will still be an FC Bayern player next term.

The club’s decision-makers have a far bigger concern on their hands: who can rotate with the Bundesliga top scorer?

There have been suggestions that Serge Gnabry could fulfil that role in the meantime, whilst the club struggles to convince targets to take the bold step of competing with Harry Kane.

Bayern have a chance to build something great

However, there has to be some level of disappointment held over what could have been. Bayern had every right to progress to the semi-final of the Champions League en route to a fairytale final at the Allianz Arena.

It sadly wasn’t meant to be, with the club’s deficiencies in defence exposed against Inter Milan.

Still, with the platform of a first Bundesliga title for Kompany and Kane to build on, there is hope of improved fortunes yet.

Max Eberl and Christoph Freund need to secure a defensive leader and, hopefully, maintain key assets like Leroy Sané. Succeed here, and why can’t Bayern dream of gifting Harry Kane an even bigger prize in 2025/26?
