Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is taking a step closer on returning to management after leaving Old Trafford in October 2024.

The Dutch manager took charge of United in 2022 and during his two and a half season stint with the Red Devils won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

However, United also experienced their worst-ever Premier League finishing position at the time, ending last season in eighth, and were on track for an even worse run this campaign.

The United hierarchy made the choice to sack ten Hag in October, replacing him with Ruben Amorim, although the Portuguese manager hasn’t been able to turn the club around yet.

Since then ten Hag has been linked to several jobs such as AS Roma, however the most high profile comes with current links to Bayer Leverkusen.

Erik ten Hag agrees on contract with Bayer Leverkusen

Leverkusen are looking for a new manager as Xabi Alonso is headed to Spain to replace Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.

As such, the Bundesliga club are looking at several candidates, including Erik ten Hag.

Fabrizio Romano has now reported that ten Hag has in fact agreed to join Leverkusen on a two year contract, with Ajax also eyeing up their former manager.

It’s understood that ten Hag is prioritising Leverkusen, and now is eagerly awaiting a response from the German club to see if he’ll be stepping into the hot seat.
