Enzo Maresca has called Enzo Fernandez a ‘leader’ at Chelsea and has dismissed suggestions the midfielder could be sold this summer.
Real Madrid are reportedly admirers of the Argentina international, with the Spanish side seeking a replacement for Luka Modric. Fernandez has impressed at Chelsea this season, scoring seven times and providing 13 assists in all competitions.
The 24-year-old has often captained the club in the absence of Reece James and Maresca has insisted that Chelsea have no plans to let the midfielder leave.
Discussing the transfer rumours, Maresca underlined Fernandez’s importance to his side.
“Enzo is very important for us. He is one of our captains, he is one of the leaders. This season has been very good and he can be even better next season, starting from the first day. [I’ve] nothing to say about speculation, his focus is on us and that is the most important thing.”
“He’s staying right?” ❓

On whether Fernandez is staying next season, Maresca said: “Yes”.
Chelsea face Nottingham Forest in a crucial clash at the City Ground this weekend. A win for the Blues will seal Champions League qualification, though defeat could see Chelsea drop to seventh.
Maresca gave a positive update on his squad with forwards Christopher Nkunku and Marc Guiu available, combatting the loss of the suspended Nicolas Jackson.
“Yes, he (Christopher Nkunku) is working with us in the last days and Marc Guiu. Both can be available for the next game against Forest.”
“He (Reece James) is OK, he has his own plan. We’ve tried to manage him also in the training session.”
