Liverpool make contract offer, player postpones talks until July–Reds want summer sale without renewal

Last week, Luis Díaz expressed his desire to stay at Liverpool in the long term, and said a new contract will depend on the Premier League winners.

Over the past few days, there’s been repeat claims in the Catalan media of Barcelona’s interest. On Thursday, Barca sporting director Deco said he likes the 28-year-old.

Friday’s edition of Sport covers the La Liga winners’ interest and Liverpool’s plans for the forward.

The Colombia international’s contract lasts until 2027 and the Catalan club know the Reds have set an €85m price tag.

Barcelona want the Liverpool player to ‘do his part’ in order to bring him to the Camp Nou in the summer window.

The report states the former FC Porto man has had a two-year extension offer on the table for weeks. The new deal includes an improved salary, but it’s not close to what Liverpool offered to Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.

Díaz and his camp have postponed talks until July. Sport believe this is likely done to give Barca sufficient time to prepare for the operation to sign him.

When the attacker’s agent sits down for talks with Reds sporting director Richard Hughes, he’ll have a better understanding of the situation at Barcelona.

The newspaper explains Liverpool are clear that Díaz will be sold if there’s no extension. The English champions want to avoid a situation similar to Trent Alexander-Arnold and have set a €85m price tag, which they’d likely have to drop.

Díaz’s future could be away from Anfield if this saga drags on for long.
