The United boss faced questions over his future as O’Hara called for him to walk after a ‘shocking’ display
If you thought things couldn’t get worse for the Red Devils, think again — and it just happened. Manchester United were close to salvaging some pride after a dreadful season, facing the prospect of finishing 16th and ending trophyless. However, new coach Ruben Amorim now faces fierce criticism and online trolls after being heavily overhyped. Jamie O’Hara has publicly urged Amorim to quit following United’s “crawling” run to the Europa League final, which ended in defeat.
The pressure has mounted on Amorim after United’s disappointing 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at San Mamés on Wednesday night. His team’s lacklustre performance sparked heavy backlash, putting the Portuguese coach firmly under the spotlight.
The Red Devils have endured the worst season in their history, ending the campaign without a trophy and sitting no higher than 14th — currently languishing in 16th place in the Premier League. Ruben Amorim, who took over in November, has managed just 16 wins from 41 matches, losing 17 along the way. No other United manager has recorded such poor numbers, and Amorim is now on track to become the club’s most unsuccessful coach. Even Erik ten Hag delivered silverware in his debut season — a benchmark Amorim has failed to meet.
O’Hara believes Amorim is not fit for the job
Jamie O’Hara delivered a harsh assessment of Ruben Amorim’s time at Manchester United when asked if the manager should resign. Speaking to Sky Sports, O’Hara stated that Amorim should walk away, suggesting it won’t take long for the board to lose confidence in him. He added that the only thing working in Amorim’s favour is that he initially didn’t want to take the job mid-season, fully aware of the challenges he’d face.
O’Hara also pointed to the doubts surrounding Amorim’s appointment, particularly his insistence on implementing a 3-4-3 system at Old Trafford. So far, he’s failed to make it work. According to him, the squad simply doesn’t have the right players for that setup — and likely never will. He argued that such a system isn’t suited to a club of Manchester United’s stature.

The Former midfielder turned pundit, speaking to SkySports believes Amorim will never be able to implement the system
“He should walk. It isn’t going to take long (to lose the board’s confidence), we will see what happens in pre-season. The only saving grace that he’s got is that he didn’t want the job until the end of the season. He wanted to come in then because he knew what he had to deal with.”

United’s loss to Spurs marked their first defeat in Europe this season, but that’s the lone silver lining in what has been a nightmare beginning to Ruben Amorim’s reign — one that ends with the club’s worst-ever Premier League campaign. Their path to the Europa League final was filled with drama and hope, yet it ended without the fairytale finish after a lacklustre display on the biggest stage. Still, as fans, we hold firm in our belief — just as Arsenal did with Mikel Arteta, even when success didn’t come immediately.
