Mohamed Salah has set his sights on creating more Liverpool history after admitting he doubted whether he could reproduce his best form this season. Salah has enjoyed another stellar campaign for the Reds, scoring 28 goals and claiming 18 assists to help his side to Premier League title glory.

The Egypt international also put fears that this could be his last season at Anfield to bed by signing a new two-year contract with the club back in April. Salah, who joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017, has also won the Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and FIFA Club World Cup as well as two league titles.

But speaking after being crowned Footballer of the Year by the Football Writers Association for the third time, Salah admitted he had to ask himself if he would be able to hit his best form once again this season before revealing he has set his sights on winning the league and Champions League next season.

He said: “Winning the Premier League and to have had that impact in the team, I have never felt that happiness in the club.

“That moment winning the Premier League against Spurs, to have (had) that impact with the number of goals and assists.

“(Also) winning the Premier League after that great players left and a good manager left also, it is so special.”

Before he concluded: “When I came into the season, it was like: ‘okay, will I be able to do it again?’ I had that conversation with myself. I said: ‘okay, let’s find out’.

“It was like: ‘okay, you need to work hard, to set the example,’ (so) I was doing my job and I think I did it very well.

“We have a very good group of players and a very good manager. We started the season well and now we won the Premier League.

“Hopefully we can win the Premier League again and also the Champions League.”

Reflecting on winning the award, Salah said: "It means a lot to win this award. It is incredible to see the names and it is so special. I am here because we have won the Premier League and I have had that impact on the team.

"The day we won it (against Tottenham) honestly, I have never felt that happy and the celebrations when we won it were amazing. But I do want to get the most goals and assists!

"I wondered at the start of the season how we would do it. A good manager and great players had left and I wondered whether we would be able to do it again. But we worked hard and did our job and we did it very well.

"We have got a good group of players and a very good manager. We started the season well and we took it on to win the Premier League again.

"I hope I can be here again next season. I want to win the Premier League one more time and the Champions League again."
