Bayern Munich are planning a face-to-face meeting in secret with Florian Wirtz this week to try and ensure Liverpool don’t beat them to the deal.
That’s [according to the Bayern Insider podcast](https://bayerninsider.podigee.io/), with journalist Christian Falk and Tobias Altschäffl, who report that Bayern are concerned about Liverpool’s sudden push for the Bayer Leverkusen star.
The Premier League champions have placed themselves firmly in the middle of the battle for Wirtz’s signature this summer, with numerous reports that they met him in Blackpool last week to discuss a move.
That was later confirmed in Germany and reports since have stated that Wirtz actually travelled to Liverpool, viewed the training facilities and even looked at houses.
That would suggest a transfer is a distinct possibility and a report in Germany this week indicated Liverpool’s directors had flew to Boston to speak with the club’s owners and get the move, which could cost €150m, sanctioned.
The move from Liverpool has somewhat come out of nowhere, with many having expected Bayern Munich to sign the midfielder this summer.
They remain firmly in the race for him but according to Falk and Altschäffl, they are very concerned about Liverpool’s sudden emergence. So much so, in fact, they now plan to meet with Wirtz in a secret location to discuss a transfer.
“_Bayern’s optimism is still there. But they’re already saying, okay, Liverpool are really getting serious now. And if Uli Hoeneß just confirms the trip to Liverpool without warning, I think he also knows that Liverpool are to be taken very seriously,”_ said Altschäffl.
_“It is quite extraordinary that The Times suddenly reports that there’s supposed to be a meeting with Florian Wirz at Säbener Straße this week,”_ continued Falk.
_“From what we’ve heard, it probably won’t take place at Säbener Straße. We’d be there with the cameras, of course, but… A much more secretive place where many negotiations have already taken place with Wirtz.”_
_“Yes, Florian Wirtz’s trip to FC Bayern, to Bayern, is supposed to go ahead,”_ responded Altschäffl.
_“But what we’ve heard now is that Uli Hoeneß is the man behind this deal. Now Wirtz himself is supposed to come. There are even voices saying that he’s already been there, but it’s about this one-week, ten-day period. It also suggests that Uli Hoeneß is putting his foot down and wants to help implement this transfer himself.”_
_“There have already been several meetings at Tegernsee, just with his father,”_ concluded Falk.
_“Whether Flo has been there or not, it would be the first documented meeting with Florian Wirtz at Tegernsee. And that would, of course, be a sign. We’ve heard that Bayern want to put a lid on it now. FC Bayern’s detailed financial framework is prepared. So, they know they have to act quickly to get the issue off the table before Liverpool.”_
