We head into our final Premier League game of the 2024/25 season with seemingly little to play for now that the runners-up spot is all-but secured, but we could create a piece of English football history with a win at Southampton.
We have a proud record of finishing seasons with a flourish, and have made a point of ending on a high by winning our final match over recent years - so much so that we have won all of our last 13 such games.
And should extend that to 14 at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday, then we will break the record for the most consecutive top-flight season-enders won consecutively, which has stood for 101 years.
We are currently tied at the top with Liverpool, who went from 1908 to 1924 winning all of their last-day encounters, but our victory over their Merseyside rivals Everton 12 months ago saw us match their exploits. However, we are now on the verge of setting a new high, having started this run with a 3-2 win at West Bromwich Albion in 2012.

You have to go back to 2005 for the last time we went into the summer break having tasted defeat in our last league match, which came at Birmingham City. That means we are currently on a 19-match unbeaten streak on the final day, and only the same Liverpool team of that era can boast a longer run in English history.

To put our current exploits into perspective, you have to go back to the Edwardian period for our previous best, which was just seven between 1903 to 1909.
We are also top of the tree when it comes to Premier League history. Since the competition was created, the previous best was a run of six, which Manchester City and Liverpool both saw end in 2022, but we have smashed that. Meanwhile, no club has racked up more final-day wins than ourselves since it was created in 1992.

Meanwhile, when it comes to our deadliest final-day finishers, it’s no surprise to see Thierry Henry on top of the pile.
Our record goalscorer netted seven of his 228 goals in the last game of the league season to sit comfortably ahead of his nearest rivals, helped by his famous hat-trick against Wigan Athletic as we said farewell to Highbury in 2006 and kick-start our current 19-game unbeaten streak. Only Harry Kane, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand and Matthew Le Tissier have scored more last-day goals in the division's history than our iconic Frenchman.
