Team sports have heard how their success is built upon each player’s willingness to embrace their role no matter what it is and no matter who they are. That’s what several veteran Green Bay Packers are doing right now according to head coach Matt LaFleur.

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur checks on wide receiver Romeo Doubs (87) after he was injured on a pass interference by San Francisco 49ers cornerback Renardo Green (0) in the endzone in the third quarter during their football game Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Doubs had to leave the game.
The team welcomed two new wider receivers from the 2025 draft class and while it meant tighter competition in an already packed WR corps, mainstays Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed are embracing the mentor role for them.
The team added Matthew Golden who they picked 23rd overall in the draft and Savion Williams who was picked 87th overall.
“I think we have a very, very competitive receiver room. I think it’s as deep as anybody in the league. I love how our guys go out there and compete and push each other,” LaFleur said during a guesting at the “Up and Adams Show.”

“It’s been pretty cool to watch the veterans, although there’s a first-rounder coming into the room, a third-rounder coming into the room, just how they’ve embraced those guys and taken them in. They are coaching them up on the field.”
He especially mentioned Doubs and Reed who he said were very active in teaching Golden and Williams the way in the team.
Green Bay Packers’ wide receiver situation
Christian Watson, one of the team’s main WR, won’t be back soon for the team as he has to recover first from a knee injury first. Dontayvion Wicks, Bo Melton and Malik Heath will still be with the team
The other WRs who were left are expected to play with intensity this season as their rookie are about to end. That is the case for Doubs who had 12 touchdown catches over the last two seasons. The same is the case for Reed who was the team’s leader in the 2023 and 2024 season.

Reed has just recovered from a torn labrum injury and there has been a hiccup on his status with the team because of the new arrivals.
However. general manager Brian Gutekunst assured his agent Drew Rosenhaus that his spot with the team is intact.
