Last summer, Manchester City were linked with a move for Lazio’s Christos Mandas.
Reports stated contact was made with the goalkeeper’s entourage and there was also interest from Manchester United.
Mandas has become a more prominent part of Lazio’s XI this season, playing 19 times in all competitions. He is now also pushing to become the Rome club’s regular first-choice between the sticks.
The 23-year-old has now spoken to Il Tempo about his situation and he was asked directly about interest from Manchester City.
The Greek stopper made it clear that he is happy at Lazio and will make his own assessments, if an attractive offer arrives.
He told the Rome-based outlet: “That’s nice, it’s normal. If the opportunity of a lifetime comes along, it’s right to make your own assessments, but I’m no longer in a small club, so even if a top club were to call me, my first thought wouldn’t be to leave.”
Mandas made it clear that he’s happy at Lazio and with the project at the Biancocelesti: “I would evaluate it knowing that I’m fine here, that the club has a project for me and that they made me renew my contract.”
Manchester City could lose one or both of Ederson and Stefan Ortega at some point in the next few months, because the duo’s contracts at the Etihad Stadium run out in the summer of 2026 and decisions need to be made.
This will lead to the Citizens looking for a new goalkeeper and that is when Mandas can become an option, especially if the Lazio star keeps pushing for a first-team spot under Marco Baroni.
