Surprise PGA Tour leader says he was motivated by this team's crushing playoff loss

The New York Knicks' stunning loss to the Indiana Pacers in Game 1 of the NBA's Eastern Conference Finals on Wednesday night left many fans upset. But one PGA Tour pro, at least, was able to use that pain as fuel to do something good on Day 1 of the Charles Schwab Challenge.

John Pak torched Colonial Country Club for an opening 63 on Thursday. Turns out, he was still burning from his team's collapse the previous night.

"I'm a die-hard Knicks fan, and that was historically one of the worst losses I've ever seen in my life," the surprising first-round leader told reporters after. "There was a fire lit under me, yeah, this morning. I was a little pissed off about that."

I feel your pain, John. In fact, me writing this post and mentioning what happened at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night is one of the gutsiest things I've ever done in my life. That was a total nightmare. Anyway, back to Pak, who planned on having a more relaxing night on Thursday.

"Thankfully the Knicks aren't playing tonight, so I won't be stressed about that," the 26-year-old Pak said. "I didn't sleep well after that loss last night."

You and me both, John. You and me both. But what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. . . . Right?
