Liverpool have made an “astronomical” offer to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen, according to SPORT.
Many were unsure how Liverpool would fare in the 2024/25 season, given it was their first campaign in almost a decade without Jurgen Klopp. The German announced he would depart the club in 2024 and in his place, Liverpool turned to Arne Slot, who at the time was working with Feyenoord.
Slot was a promising manager, but none could have foreseen such a dominant debut season in the English top flight. The Dutchman had guided Liverpool to their second-ever Premier League title with four games to spare, the Reds never looking likely to relinquish top spot across the campaign.
Liverpool’s accomplishments are made all the more impressive given that Federico Chiesa, who scarcely played for the Reds, was Slot’s only signing of the season. Unsurprisingly, the Merseyside club are already looking ahead to the summer transfer window, having agreed a deal for Jeremie Frimpong to replace the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold. It would now appear that the Reds want to confirm the signing of an attacking target.

To date, Wirtz has spent his entire senior career with Leverkusen and at just 22 years old, has established himself as not only one of the most promising attacking midfielders in the world, but also one of the best as it is.

Wirtz, who has been dubbed "the best midfielder in the world," was a crucial part of the Xabi Alonso team that won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal undefeated in the 2023/24 season, though it now seems the German is set for a move away from the club. Liverpool have been interested in Wirtz for some time, with Slot clearly wanting a new number 10 for his team.
Should Liverpool, who have already signed Frimpong, manage to sign his midfield teammate, then the Reds will be set for another push at major honours in the coming campaign.
