Report: Bruno Guimaraes steps in as Newcastle United come to Will Osula decision

Newcastle United forward William Osula has emerged as something of a cult-hero amongst supporters.

Osula joined Newcastle United from Sheffield United last summer but has struggled for game time.

The 21-year-old has been afforded only three starts by Eddie Howe, with none of them coming in the Premier League.

Still, the Dane has emerged as a popular figure on social media and was front and centre of Newcastle’s Carabao Cup celebrations.

Osula has been tipped to leave Newcastle on loan this summer but reports from The Daily Mail appear to offer a glimpse of a future for him at St James’ Park.

Newcastle United make Will Osula decision after Bruno Guimaraes help

The report claims that Newcastle will likely keep Osula at the club next season after their coaching staff were impressed by his development.

Team captain Bruno Guimaraes is understood to have helped the player settle in, too. Osula sits next to the Brazilian in the home dressing room at St James’ and Guimaraes told the striker to celebrate scoring against Bromley in the FA Cup in front of the Leazes End.

In fact, Osula’s development is thought to have been a part of the discussions amongst recruitment staff, suggesting he will be a part of Howe’s squad next season.

Why Newcastle United rejected Liam Delap to sign Will Osula

Newcastle are interested in signing Liam Delap this summer but could have actually landed him before.

Indeed, Newcastle have tracked Delap for years but did not sign him because they did not qualify for last season’s Conference League.

Instead, they eventually signed Osula. While Delap looks the much better player now, it remains to be seen how the Newcastle forward develops.

Clearly, those behind the scenes appear to rate Osula. With more games on the calendar next season, first-team minutes may present themselves on a more frequent basis.
