Manchester United are heading into the summer transfer window knowing they will need to improve their squad on a budget.
After missing out on Champions League qualification, Ruben Amorim and Ineos will not be able to rely on the funds that participation in the competition provides. Despite this, United do need to make additions to their attack with Matheus Cunha and Liam Delap both seen as top targets.
One player who has also seen his name linked with United is Victor Osimhen. However, in our lunchtime look at the transfer headlines, it appears the Napoli man is losing patience with the Reds.
Osimhen frustrated by United
According to FootMercato, Galatasaray loanee Osimhen is frustrated that United have not made a move for him yet. It is understood the Nigerian centre-forward wants to sort a transfer for himself quickly this summer having missed out on a permanent exit last year.
While his desire would be to stay in Europe and United could be an option he would explore, their lack of interest has frustrated him and Osimhen is now contemplating the advance from Al Hilal. Ineos are believed to be uninterested by the prospect of signing the striker this summer.
What MEN Sport says: Surely United are only uninterested at the prospect of signing Osimhen because of his reported wage demands. While Delap is one for the future, the Nigerian has proven himself to be one of the best strikers in European football in recent years. If there is a scenario whereby he wants to move to Old Trafford, surely it is worth having that conversation to see if his wages can be shifted in line with United's demands. The idea of potentially missing out on Osimhen will frustrate supporters, especially as there are question marks over whether Delap will be able to score consistently too.
United ready to sell Hojlund
According to Corriere dello Sport, United would be interested in selling Rasmus Hojlund if a bid in the region of £46m was to come in for him. While Osimhen and Jonathan David are thought to be their top targets, Juventus could switch their attention to the Dane as a replacement for Dusan Vlahovic.
Hojlund impressed at Atalanta before moving to Old Trafford.
What MEN Sport says: If Hojlund is sold, United would need to sign more than just Delap for the centre-forward role. They would need options and an extra £46m could go a long way towards luring Osimhen to Old Trafford. It is unlikely that United will get another chance to sign the Nigerian at a price around the £60m mark ever again and with Napoli interested in Alejandro Garnacho there could be room to adjust that figure. It seems naive at this stage to think just one new centre-forward would be enough to change the fortunes of this club.
