After confirming his departure from Real Madrid, speculation is growing around **Luka Modrić’s next move**—and the **Premier League** may once again be calling.
The 39-year-old Croatian midfielder, who spent four seasons with **Tottenham Hotspur** before joining Real Madrid in 2012, will officially leave the Spanish giants this summer. With 13 seasons, **28 trophies**, and nearly 600 appearances behind him, Modrić closes a golden chapter in Madrid—but according to former teammate **Predrag Mijatović**, he’s not done yet.
“I know Luka well,” Mijatović told **Cadena SER**. “Despite his age and everything he’s won, he’s still hungry for competition and success. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
While Modrić reportedly **wanted to stay at Real Madrid for one more season**, Cadena SER claims he reached out to **Xabi Alonso**, the club’s likely next manager and his former teammate, to see if he was in future plans. When it became clear the club would not offer a new deal, Modrić accepted the decision—but not without **exploring his options**.
Now, **Mijatović believes a return to England is entirely possible**.
“Don’t be surprised if he ends up in England,” he said. “That league runs at 120 kilometers per hour—and Luka thrives in that kind of energy.”

Still, Mijatović also mentioned **Italy and Germany** as potential destinations, saying many top-tier clubs are eager to bring in a player of Modrić’s calibre. He firmly dismissed the idea of the Croatian playmaker heading to **Asia or the United States**.
“In football, anything is possible,” Mijatović said. “But knowing him, I don’t believe he’ll go to a league where the competition isn’t at the highest level. He wants to fight, to play well—and only the top leagues can give him that.”
