Pittsburgh Steelers-themed roller coaster set to reopen after year hiatus at Kennywood

Kennywood’s [Pittsburgh Steelers](https://www.pennlive.com/steelers/)\-themed roller coaster, the [Steel Curtain](https://www.pennlive.com/entertainment/2025/05/pas-tallest-roller-coaster-is-about-to-reopen-heres-when-you-can-ride.html), is set to reopen after a year hiatus. The roller coaster was closed for modifications during the entire 2024 year.

The ride is set to reopen at 11 a.m. on Saturday after he was refurbished over the last year.

What changed? Working with S&S Worldwide, the ride’s manufacturer, and other third-party sources, Kennywood added three new columns and braces to the roller coaster, which will improve its safety and longevity.

Steel Curtain holds many records for roller coasters in Pennsylvania and North America. At 220 feet, it is the tallest in Pennsylvania, beating out Hershey Park’s Candymonium.

It has the most inversions of any roller coaster in North America with nine and the tallest inversion in the world, at 197 feet.

Originally constructed in 2019, the ride came from a partnership between the Steelers and Kennywood. Multiple players were among the first to unveil the roller coaster when it was first revealed.

Since its opening, its availability has been on and off, but these modifications aim to keep it open over the years as a reliable part of Kennywood Amusement Park’s visitors’ experience.
