Green Bay Packers wide receiver Bo Melton joined the team during the middle of the 2023 NFL season because of injuries to the wide receiver position. Melton was on the Packers roster during the 2024 NFL season.

With a lot of uncertainty at the Packers wide receiver position entering the 2025 season, Melton could be a potential player on the roster who does not make the team out of training camp. Another player who has been with Green Bay for the past two seasons but also may not make the team out of camp is wide receiver Malik Heath.
Rookie Wide Receiver Savion Williams Could Be the Reason the Green Bay Packers Move On From Bo Melton and Malik Heath

The Packers decided to address the wide receiver position early in the 2025 NFL Draft. Green Bay drafted wide receiver Matthew Golden from the Texas Longhorns in the first-round and also drafted wide receiver Savion Williams from the TCU Horned Frogs in the third-round. With Green Bay drafting both of those players, both players are expected to be in the mix for play time as rookies.
Matt Schneidman of the Athletic thinks that Melton and Heath are losers of the offseason on the Packers roster because of the rookie wide receivers being drafted. Schneidman said,
“Head coach Matt LaFleur was asked at the NFL owners’ meeting about perhaps needing another speed option at wide receiver with Watson out. He mentioned the names of five wideouts, including Melton and Heath. At least one of those guys appeared primed for increased opportunity in 2025 after Watson went down, but it’ll be hard for either of them to crack the rotation with Golden and third-round pick Savion Williams in the fold behind Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks. I’m not totally convinced that Williams will be a regular contributor, but coaches are talking about him as if he will.”
As of now on Green Bay’s depth chart, Doubs, Reed, and Golden are projected to be the starters. Wicks and Williams is projected to be the fourth and fifth wide receivers on the roster. With Watson being injured, the most likely candidate to make the roster out of camp for the sixth wide receiver spot will be Mecole Hardman Jr.
Heath and Melton will be the seventh and eighth wide receivers on the depth chart entering training camp. There is a very good chance that both of those players could be cut by the Packers before the 2025 NFL season. They were both good depth pieces for Green Bay.
Melton only caught eight passes for 91 yards receiving and zero touchdowns, along with averaging 11.4 yards per reception during the 2024 NFL season with the Packers. He was targeted 17 times. As for Heath, he caught 10 passes for 97 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 9.7 yards per reception. He was targeted 13 times. If they are both cut before the start of the 2025 NFL season, there is a chance that both could wind up on different NFL teams or back on the Packers practice squad also.
