Oliver Glasner is on the way to becoming an iconic Austrian manager like Ernst Happel, thanks to his success at Crystal Palace.
That’s [according to Sky Austria expert Alfred Tatar](https://www.skysportaustria.at/in-den-fussstapfen-von-ernst-happel-tatar-schwaermt-von-glasner/), who believes Crystal Palace’s FA Cup success last weekend has enhanced Glasner’s status considerably.
Palace were 1-0 winners over Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday, with Eberechi Eze’s goal proving to be the difference. The trophy was the first major success in the history of the club.
It continued the fine work that Glasner has been doing at Crystal Palace since last season, when he arrived to replace Roy Hodgson.
He guided the club away from relegation danger after that and, after a difficult start to this season, has led Crystal Palace to mid-table security and their first ever major trophy.
It’s the second major trophy of his managerial career too, having won the Europa League as Eintracht Frankfurt manager in 2022. He also guided LASK from the Austrian second division to the top flight in 2017.
His reputation is growing, with big clubs in Europe also reportedly interested in him, and Tatar believes the Crystal Palace manager is on course to equal famous Austrian coach Ernst Happel, a man considered one of the greatest managers of all time.
_“His coaching career began at Ried. Things didn’t go so well, and he moved to LASK. They didn’t succeed in their first season, when they wanted to get promoted,”_ he said.
_“But in Linz, they remained calm because they saw what kind of man they had. We all still remember what happened in the Bundesliga._
_“It was a dream, the way LASK performed under Oliver Glasner and the players he pushed. He also has two companions and helpers with him, Michael Angerschmid and Ronald Brunmayr, who provide him with great support. Because when you’re abroad, you need people you feel comfortable with._
_“The successes that Oliver Glasner celebrated with his two companions are unique. In my opinion, he has followed in Ernst Happel’s footsteps.”_
