Predicting Wolverhampton Wanderers’ lineup at home to Brentford in the Premier League.
Wolverhampton Wanderers are in action for one final time this season as they play host to Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The Old Gold welcome the Bees to Molineux for one last dash to the finish line. An opportunity awaits for Vitor Pereira’s side to clinch 14th place with a victory but Brentford have more to play for as they can still finish eighth and have a slight chance at qualifying for Europe.
Brighton & Hove Albion are three points ahead of the Bees heading into the final day and only need a draw away at Tottenham Hotspur to secure eighth, but Brentford will be determined to at least play their part with a win at Molineux. Eighth will only be enough for Europe if Chelsea finish exactly seventh and win the Europa Conference League, but that’s not beyond the realms of possibility.
Pereira rotated heavily for the 4-2 defeat away at Crystal Palace midweek, seemingly experimenting with a number of his fringe players. The head coach could do similar again this weekend, though there’s a big decision regarding Matheus Cunha. Should the Brazilian start despite already agreeing a transfer to Manchester United? That’s a big call for Pereira to make.
Wolves predicted lineup vs Brentford
GK - Jose Sa: The goalkeeper missed the trip to Crystal Palace but will likely come back in if available. If not, Daniel Bentley seems to be the man.
RWB - Nelson Semedo: Now looking set to leave the club despite being offered a new four-year contract, Semedo should start. Hopefully it’s not a farewell, but he should have the opportunity to say it if required.
CB - Nasser Djiga: He didn’t play particularly well on his Premier League debut but needs more opportunities to adapt. If not, Matt Doherty could move back into his auxiliary role.
CB - Emmanuel Agbadou: Already living up to his £16 million price tag, Agbadou has really sured up Wolves defensively. It’s truly amazing how much of a difference one signing done right can make.
CB - Toti Gomes: Pereira has got great faith in Toti as the left-sided centre-back in his system. The Portuguese is in his very best form at the moment.
LWB - Rayan Ait-Nouri: Enjoying a more advanced role as a wing-back, Ait-Nouri is a top threat. Just like with Semedo, Wolves are hoping to tie the Algerian down to a new long-term contract.
CM - Andre: Sitting deepest of Wolves’ midfield players, Andre is showing signs of the potential he was signed for. He’s finally finding some real consistency, too.
CM - Joao Gomes: Benched last time out, Gomes could come back in to complete the usual Brazilian midfield pairing. He’s been one of Wolves’ standout players this term.
RAM - Marshall Munetsi: A proper powerhouse and a clear favourite of Pereira’s, Munetsi has been superb since signing in January. The Zimbawean works harder than most.
LAM - Matheus Cunha: As controversial at it is to start Cunha when he’s already agreed to join Man Utd, Pereira has confirmed a new fitness worry for Strand Larsen. It’s also a chance for Wolves fans to see him in the Old Gold one last time.
ST - Goncalo Guedes: Pereira’s revelation about Strand Larsen means Guedes is likely to lead the line, as much as that hasn’t worked this season.
