England Thomas Tuchel explains Tino Livramento's omission from latest squad as Newcastle United …

· 23 May 2025, 18:30

**We have to admit, we took it a bit personally this morning when we saw that Tino Livramento had been left out of Thomas Tuchel's second England squad.**

The Newcastle United full-back has been in fantastic form for the Magpies this season, especially in the latter months, where he's been playing out of position as cover for injured Lewis Hall.

While we'll be the first ones to admit that he could work on the attacking side of his game, he's been an outstanding player nonetheless and was fully deserving of a place in the England set up for the upcoming games against Andorra and Senegal.

However, just as we were about to pick up our pitchforks and light our torches, Thomas Tuchel explained his decision, and we absolutely understand.

Thomas Tuchel wanted England to have the best chance of defending their title in the U21 Euros

It wasn't just the omission of Tino Livramento that raised eyebrows but also that of Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and a few other notable youngsters that had people questioning the German's selections, but there is method to his madness.

> "Together with Tino Livramento, Jarell Quansah, Elliott Anderson and Liam Delap - all names who could play a role for us but a major tournament comes up for the Under-21s and the intention is they play a big part in this tournament.

> "I like it a lot that they have chances to be leaders in this group, to be players we hopefully will rely on. We will monitor them closely but we decided that with these players they take the responsibility for the Under-21s."

Tino Livramento is probably better off with the U21s this summer

----------------------------------------------------------------

We're sure that Tino Livramento would rather be part of the U21s, playing his part in a tournament, than watching on from the sidelines with the seniors as they (hopefully) breeze past Andorra in a World Cup Qualifier and play out a friendly against Senegal.

Livramento has been called up to the senior squad a couple of times, but his actual game time has been very limited, so he's probably better off in the U21s.

There's plenty of time for Tino to become an England legend, he might as well help the U21s first.
