Florian Wirtz Reportedly Favors Blockbuster Liverpool Move

We’re two days from the end of the season and still a week away from the opening of the summer transfer window, but it appears that Liverpool are ready to drop some cash and get some work done early before we can be thwarted. First, the Jeremie Frimpong deal is all but finalized, and now it appears that Liverpool are adding some more attacking power.

In what could potentially be a generational signing, Bayer Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz has reportedly told Bayern Munich (his last suitor after Manchester City bowed out) he prefers to move to Liverpool, with some reporters even going so far as to claim that the forward has made a verbal agreement with the Reds.

David Ornstein at The Athletic has had the most reliable reports so far, writing that the 22 year old forward has even visited Merseyside already to house hunt for the move.

Wirtz was instrumental in Leverkusen’s title winning season last year, scoring 18 goals and providing 20 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions. His efforts named him Bundesliga Player of the Season for 2023-24, and this season was much the same with 16 goals and 15 assists in 45 appearances.

His current contract runs through 2027, so Liverpool will have to pay a hefty fee for the forward, but all reports believe that that won’t be a problem for the Premier League champions this year.

Of course, nothing can be really finalized until the window opens on June 1, but with two necessary signings potentially agreed a week before that happens shows the club’s intent to keep building on the success of this season and go for the trophies that fell by the wayside this year.
