Five of the most improved Premier League players in 2024/25

The 2024/25 Premier League season has seen plenty of players elevate their game to new heights.

As we conclude the campaign, we’ve looked at some of the most improved players in the Premier League this season.

Five of the most improved Premier League players in 2024/25

Youri Tielemans – Aston Villa

Youri Tielemans failed to command a regular role in the Aston Villa team last season, starting just 17 times in the Premier League after his move from Leicester City. The exit of Douglas Luiz has led to increased opportunities and Tielemans has thrived.

The 28-year-old has been an ever-present when fit for Aston Villa this season, acting as the metronomic hub of Unai Emery’s midfield. His speed of thought and passing range have conducted the play for Villa, while he’s shown adaptability to perform as a six, eight or ten.

One of the best midfielders in the Premier League this season, it’s easy to forget that Aston Villa snapped him up as a free agent.

Mikkel Damsgaard – Brentford

Mikkel Damsgaard has certainly taken his time to find his feet at Brentford but the Danish midfielder is right at home now. After two underwhelming campaigns in West London, he’s become a crucial cog under Thomas Frank in 2024/25.

Damsgaard’s intelligent positioning and chance creation have helped Brentford to a top-half finish, providing ammunition for the free-scoring forward duo of Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa.

After just seven starts and two assists last season, Damsgaard has featured in every league game for the Bees in 2024/25. During that time, he’s scored twice and provided 10 assists. Only three players created more goals.

Justin Kluivert – Bournemouth

Justin Kluivert showed signs of fulfilling his potential last season but the Dutchman has gone up another level in 2024/25.

Kluivert’s goal contributions have jumped from eight last season to 18 this time around, including hat-tricks against Wolves and Newcastle United. Such has been his form, Kluivert has earned a recall to the Netherlands squad after a six-year absence. The 26-year-old’s nomadic career looks to have found a home on the south coast.

Ryan Gravenberch – Liverpool

Liverpool tried and failed to sign a number six last summer, with a failed pursuit of Martin Zubimendi a cause for concern in pre-season. The solution, however, was right in front of them.

Arne Slot’s reinvention of Ryan Gravenberch in a deeper role has been one of the revelations of the campaign. After sporadic involvement last season under Jurgen Klopp, Gravenberch has blossomed under the new head coach.

He ranks third in the Premier League for interceptions and has impressed with his duel-winning and comfortability receiving the ball in deep areas of the pitch. Nominated for the Premier League Player and Young Player of the Season awards, the 23-year-old looks set to be a fixture at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

Jacob Murphy – Newcastle United

Newcastle’s right-wing has been labelled a problem position but Jacob Murphy has done his utmost to debunk that narrative this season.

Murphy has made the role his own with hard running and dangerous deliveries all season long. The 30-year-old has produced the best football of his career, scoring eight goals and providing 12 assists in the Premier League alone. Only Mohamed Salah (18) has provided more assists than Murphy.

Since the turn of the year, just three English players have hit over 10 direct goal contributions in the Premier League ⚽️

For Newcastle, only Nolberto Solano (15) and Andy Cole (13) have created more goals in a single Premier League campaign.
