Davide Ancelotti had Real Madrid fans on the verge of tears with an emotional announcement that he's leaving the club.

The Rangers manager target has been right-hand man to his dad Carlo since his time at Bayern Munich in 2016 and has been by his side at Napoli, Everton and Real.

He'll join his old man in the early stages of his next adventure as Brazil manager before he's expected to take off and launch his own career.

Reports in Spain say the most 'advanced' talks he's held so far are with the Ibrox club and he's one of the options being considered there along with Steven Gerrard and others.

First though, he's got one last game on the Real staff against Real Sociedad tomorrow. And ahead of that one, he took to his brand new Instagram page to announce his impending exit.

He wrote: "After 4 years, it's time to say goodbye. "It's not easy to put into words what leaving Real Madrid means. This club is not just history, it's demand, it's greatness, it's a family. I have been fortunate and honoured to live it from the inside, to grow as a person and as a coach in a unique environment.

"Thank you to the players for teaching me every day, to the staff for sharing so many hours of work and passion, and to all the people at the club who make possible what the world sees every week.

"And thanks, of course, to the fans. Being part of Real Madrid means living with the pressure of always winning, and with the privilege of feeling your support all over the world. "Start a new phase for me. With excitement, with respect, and with the desire to apply everything I have learned here. Thank you Real Madrid. See you soon."

It seems he's a popular man too as the replies were filled with Spanish-language messages reading:

"You will manage Real Madrid one day, I know what I am saying."

"Sometime our next coach, you have an extraordinary talent."

"The mastermind."

"Will definitely miss you."

"Let’s hope this is a 'see you soon.' Thank you for so much joy!"

Ancelotti Jr. is expected to join his dad in the dugout for June friendlies with Ecuador and Paraguay before branching off on his own.
