Brock Purdy doesn't buy into the notion he can't play well in bad weather, although he did admit one game was 'crazy.'
There have been plenty of critiques surrounding San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy over the years, but none of those prevented the Niners from making him a $265 million signal-caller, the net result of a five-year extension the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft signed recently.
Critics will cite Purdy's all-star supporting cast and quarterback-friendly offense under head coach Kyle Shanahan as reasons behind the success.
Those pundits also rarely hesitate to point out how Purdy isn't exactly effective in inclement weather.
There's an argument to that. 2024 alone revealed two bad-weather games in which San Francisco's hurler wasn't exactly his best self, namely that late-season must-win game against the Los Angeles Rams where rainy conditions weren't exactly making things favorable.
Purdy isn't buying it, though.
Well, "almost" isn't buying it.
Brock Purdy shoots down notion of struggling in bad weather (except for 1 game)
Purdy made the rounds on Bay Area radio stations after inking his extension, and a recent appearance on 95.7 The Game's Willard & Dibs Show helped shed light on the bad-weather narrative.
"Again, that's their opinion," Purdy said when asked about not playing well in bad weather. "Green Bay, it was raining, we won the game. Seattle, my rookie year, it started raining. The playoff game, we won that game."
OK, fair enough.
However, Purdy admitted there was last year's Sunday Night Football blowout at the hands of the Buffalo Bills, which featured plenty of snow and winds that led to him recording the worst game of his career, at least statistically.
"The Buffalo game was crazy, I'm not gonna lie," Purdy added. "Just the snow and the blizzard and all that. That was on another level. But, I don't know. Outside of that, I still don't buy into it. I feel like I can play in any condition and find a way to win. And I've proven it, too."

Fortunately, if one looks at it that way, Purdy and the Niners won't exactly be playing in too many bad-weather cities late this upcoming season, meaning the quarterback won't be presented with ample opportunity to prove the narrative one way or another.
