Sheikh Jassim of Qatar has re-emerged as a potential candidate for a full takeover of Manchester United, despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe securing a minority stake in the club around 18 months ago.
The Glazer family’s drag-along rights are expected to activate in the coming months.
Meaning any full takeover could potentially force Ratcliffe to sell his 25% stake.

Ratcliffe and INEOS were brought in with hopes of restoring United’s fortunes, but the past year has delivered little progress.
Off-field decisions – including drastic cost-cutting measures – have further alienated fans and staff.
United also confirmed earlier this year plans for a new 100,000-seat stadium.
However, they’ll now head into the 2025-26 campaign without European football for the first time in over a decade.
Amid the growing frustration, Keith Wyness, the former Everton CEO and current football consultant, believes Sheikh Jassim could revive his interest.
Sheikh Jassim whispers ramping up as speculation arises again
Speaking on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said the whispers around Jassim’s name have intensified.
“I’ve had two people call me asking if Sheikh Jassim could come back in again,” he revealed.
“I think he could. We’ve seen the mess Ratcliffe has made… he may decide the time is right.”
Jassim previously promised to wipe United’s debt and take the club off the New York Stock Exchange.
Wyness believes a new offer would have to hit the £7-8billion range to tempt the Glazers into a deal, adding:
“When you look at NFL franchises at around £10billion, then United have to be worth a similar amount.
“At that number, I would consider the Glazers to be sellers.”
With the club facing mounting pressure both on and off the pitch, a renewed takeover saga may not be far away.
The fanbase would most certainly welcome a change, considering Ratcliffe’s inability to fix the mess at United so far.
