Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz could potentially join Liverpool.
It seems as though Liverpool are not wasting any time in getting their plans for the summer transfer window well underway. The Reds may not officially be able to make new signings until next month, but it doesn't stop them getting most of the work out of the way ready to bring reinforcements to the club as soon as the window opens.
One player who may be moving to Anfield in the near future, it seems, is Florian Wirtz. The Bayer Leverkusen star emerged as a target for Liverpool last week, with the player also mentioned as being of interest to Bayern Munich and Manchester City in recent weeks.
It's understood that while the Reds do have an admiration for Wirtz, the expectation has been that the player will either stay at Leverkusen or move to Munich.

However, one major update has emerged claiming that things may have changed. The Athletic have reported that Liverpool are now the favourites to sign Wirtz with Bayern apparently under the impression the player has 'chosen to move to Merseyside'.
Although it's suggested the formalities of the deal are still far from being agreed, it's possible that Wirtz could be wearing a Liverpool shirt for next season.
If Liverpool can get a deal over the line, as is often the case, attention will then turn towards what will be next in the transfer market. The Reds are also thought to be close to signing Jeremie Frimpong, also with Leverkusen, but who could be the next player to move to Anfield?
If Wirtz and Frimpong are signing, that would be a creative forward and right-back signed ahead of next season. Another position that could be seen as an area for strengthening is left-back, with one player already mentioned continually as being on the shortlist.
Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez has been heavily linked with signing for Liverpool this summer. It's understood that although the Hungary international is a player of interest to the Reds, he's not the only one on the shortlist heading into the summer.
Liverpool currently have Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas as their main left-back options. The left side of the defence is an area of the squad that has seen plenty of transfer speculation throughout the season, but it remains to be seen if Kerkez turns out to be the player the Reds will look to add to their squad.
Signing Wirtz, Frimpong and Kerkez would certainly prove to be rather expensive for Liverpool this summer.
Some of the fees could be offset by raising funds via player sales, but it is still uncertain what the future will hold for some members of the squad.
Arne Slot will already welcome Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili to the Liverpool squad for next season after a deal was agreed with Valencia last summer.
With Frimpong expected to sign for the Reds and the potential for Wirtz to follow suit, it looks set to be a rather busy summer at Anfield ahead of a dream Premier League title defence.
