The deciding factor in Florian Wirtz joining Liverpool

Florian Wirtz to Liverpool is increasingly looking like it’s going to happen with each new update.

The Reds’ interest in the German is well documented and the latest reports from Germany indicate that Liverpool are ahead in the race.

The attacking midfielder, who has collected 29 caps for Germany, played an instrumental role in Leverkusen’s first-ever Bundesliga title in 2023-24, earning himself the league’s Player of the Season award.

The 22-year-old has just completed another outstanding season with 16 goals and 15 assists in all competitions.

For Liverpool’s part, they have escalated their pursuit of Wirtz following a meeting with the player’s family in Blackpool last week.

Serveral reports emerged on Friday that the 22-year-old has said yes to Liverpool.

And now, German publication Kicker has revealed why the German chose the Reds.

Per the report, a conversation with Arne Slot was the turning point in the race for Wirtz, despite Bayern Munich strong insterest and initial favourite position in the race.

“Bayern’s management was confident that Florian Wirtz would join them, but he is leaning towards a transfer to Liverpool and not to Munich – he informed Bayern of this,” the report said (via @WerkselfXtra on X.)

“The conversation between Wirtz and Arne Slot is said to have been a decisive factor.

“There have also been recent talks with Vincent Kompany, but everything points to Wirtz moving to England – provided Liverpool can afford the transfer fee”
