Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz is demanding a “record-breaking wage package” to join Liverpool, according to CaughtOffside.
Despite many wondering how Liverpool would fare under the management of Arne Slot, their first season in almost a decade without Jurgen Klopp, the Reds stormed their way to their second-ever Premier League title. Liverpool won the league with four games to spare, never looking as though they would drop from first place throughout the season.
The Merseyside club are already making moves to defend their title. In place of the departing Trent Alexander-Arnold, Liverpool have already agreed a deal to sign Jeremie Frimpong. A teammate of Frimpong at Bayer Leverkusen is also on Liverpool’s radar, but in order to sign him, they will need to give him a lucrative contract.

As per CaughtOffside, Florian Wirtz would be seeking, across a five-year period, an annual payment of £21 million (around £400,000-a-week). To put that figure into context, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk earn, per annum, £20.8 million and £18.2 million respectively, according to Capology. Should Liverpool sign Wirtz, he could become their highest-paid player.

Wirtz is regarded as one of the best creative midfielders in the world, a title he has achieved at just 22 years of age. The German enjoyed yet another brilliant campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, having helped them to an unbeaten Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double in the 2023/24 season.
The German would already represent a record transfer for Liverpool, with Wirtz expected to cost around £126 million. Combined with becoming their highest earner, it would certainly be a statement from Liverpool if they were willing to add Wirtz to their team and a signing that would only increase their chances of defending their title.
