Hamburg Sea Devils sign brother of NFL superstar Tua Tagovailoa

Former Maryland standout Taulia Tagovailoa has signed a contract with the Hamburg Sea Devils.

Tagovailoa joins the European League of Football (ELF) team after a record-breaking college career with the Terrapins, with the quarterback holding 11 program records at the NCAA school. Included in his milestones are career passing yards (11,256), single-season passing yards (3,860 in 2021), career passing touchdowns (76) and career completion percentage (67.1%) as Tagovailoa established himself as the greatest QB in the school's history.

After his Maryland career ended, Tagovailoa joined the Seattle Seahawks minicamp last year and eventually signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League for the 2024 season.

Now 25, the Hawaii-born pivot looks to make a big splash in Germany.

"I am really excited about this opportunity to play football for the Hamburg Sea Devils," Tagovailoa said in a statement. "I'm looking forward to competing with the best players in Europe and giving the team everything I've got."

More casual football fans unfamiliar with the Maryland Terrapins may recognize the Tagovailoa name from the NFL, as the newest Hamburg Sea Devil is the younger brother of Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa.
