Steve Aschburner of NBA.com joined The Drive Guys on Thursday to discuss his perspective on how Zach LaVine fits with the Sacramento Kings, given that he covered him during his time with the Chicago Bulls.
With LaVine signing a ginormous deal with Chicago, it created a complicated situation and changed how the dynamic scoring guard was viewed.
“They had to pay somebody and he ended up with the biggest contract,” Aschburner said. “And, as a result of that, there was a little bit of friction and sense that, ‘Well, he wasn’t playing up to that deal.'”
“But, he’s not the one that put the offer on the table. So, I think that he’s a good player. He’s a really nice piece to have on a contender. I don’t know that he’s the guy that’s going to carry a team and I thought there was some redundancy, frankly, when the Kings acquired him from Chicago.”
The guys also dove into Sacramento’s decision to reunite LaVine with DeMar DeRozan in California’s capital, the ongoing conference finals, and more.
