Sam Amick on Haliburton’s growth, Kings adding Bobby Jackson

The Athletic‘s Sam Amick joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross on Thursday to discuss Tyrese Haliburton’s continued growth, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander being awarded the 2024-25 NBA MVP, the ongoing conference finals, and more.

Haliburton, Aaron Nesmith, and the Indiana Pacers had yet another miracle comeback, this time in New York for game one of the Eastern Conference Finals. Amick gave his perspective on their win and what it means for the series as a whole.

“Now you just wonder what the domino effect is going to be on the Knicks,” he said. “It certainly feels like more than one game.”

“At the same time, they dominated the action for most of game one. So, they’ve shown that they can control the Pacers. You just have to not stop playing basketball in the last three minutes, which is what’s been happening with these Pacers. Teams take their foot off the gas and they’re right there.”

The former Sacramento Kings guard enjoys the extras, doing a Reggie Miller choke sign after hitting what he thought was the game-winning step back, but his foot was on the line.

But, do those antics bother other players around the NBA?

“He obviously irks folks, but he’s a helluva ball player,” Amick said in response to Haliburton being “Most Overrated” in the anonymous player poll.

Jason also discussed the Sacramento Kings adding Bobby Jackson to Doug Christie’s coaching staff. What does he bring to California’s capital?
