Recently released Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Lectius Smith has cleared waivers, according to the NFL Transaction Wire. The Steelers signed former Houston Texans guard Nick Broeker in place of Smith.
Smith was released by the Patriots earlier this offseason. He was claimed off the practice from the Green Bay Packers in the middle of the season.
A 2022 sixth-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals, Smith has been all around the NFL over his first three seasons in the NFL. Over his first three seasons, Smith has played for the Cardinals, Packers, Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and Houston Texans.
Smith has played in 18 games and has started three games. One of those starts came last year as the jumbo tight end in the Patriots’ offense, a role he adopted late in the year. He has played at guard and center, making Smith a three-position versatile player over his NFL career.
He played over 200 snaps in his rookie season, but has not even played 50 snaps since that season. After clearing waivers, Smith is now free to sign wherever he wants and is a free agent.
