Liverpool boss Arne Slot plans to copy Jurgen Klopp as Reds prepare new contract

Liverpool are poised to present Arne Slot with a lucrative new contract, with the manager hinting at a prolonged tenure akin to Jurgen Klopp's impressive nine-year stint. Klopp took charge in October 2015, initially on a three-year deal, but after showing his prowess, he soon secured an extended six-year contract.

Now, FSG seems set to court Slot for a similar commitment, especially after he clinched the Premier League title in his debut season.

On the brink of lifting the trophy following their concluding match against Crystal Palace, Slot played it coy regarding any new deal talks, yet didn't shirk away from the idea of mirroring Klopp's lengthy spell at Anfield: "I could see it, yes. This club has a history of having managers for a long time and we also saw that with Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson.

"I think, in general, in football and in life, there is not so much patience. Maybe England is an exception.

"So I could see myself working here for a long time because it's a great club to work for and I'm really happy over here."

Slot's comments also touch upon FSG's preference for stability, as demonstrated by their backing of the Boston Red Sox's skipper.

"Alex Cora is the name," Slot remarked. "I think he finished last in the first two seasons and he is still there.

"It is a combination of the history of the club and how the ownership works.

"If there is ever a club where you can work for multiple years, it will probably be Liverpool."

Despite winning the World Series in his debut season with the Red Sox in 2018, Alex Cora has seen his team reach the postseason play-offs just once in the subsequent five years (excluding the 2020 season when he was not at the helm).

Nevertheless, Cora's contract extends until 2027.

Slot acknowledges that to build a lasting legacy at Anfield, he must maintain a winning streak.

He continued: "It is kind of arrogant to say it if you have only been here a year that you will be here for nine years. I don't think it will be enough if after five years I say: 'Do remember that in my first year I won the league title.'".

"Maybe it is different in the modern era and compared to other clubs but the reason Pep (Guardiola) is there for nine years and Jurgen was here for nine years is that they both won a lot as well. Maybe that is not THE reason, but it is a reason."

However, Slot may need to consider his future strategies without his trusted assistant coach Johnny Heitinga, who is rumoured to be in line for a managerial role at Ajax following their dismissal of Francesco Farioli after a disappointing end to the season.

Slot quipped: "If Ajax would be smart, they would consider him. He is ready to take on a job like that.

"If John is smart, he would stay one more season."
