And speaking at the LFC Foundation Gala Ball at the city’s Anglican Cathedral on Friday night, Klopp held up a Liverpool shirt with Alexander-Arnold’s name and number on the back before launching a passionate defence of his former player.
‘I’m not going to tell anybody what they should think, I don’t want to tell you what you have to think but I can tell you what you think is wrong,’ Klopp said.

Jurgen Klopp says Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘gave absolutely everything’ to Liverpool (PA Wire)
‘I’m not telling you shouldn’t be disappointed, you shouldn’t be angry, I’m telling you don’t forget what he’s done for the club.
‘I’ve watched a lot of games, I watched the game where he came on and I heard the booing, with my hearing I switched up the volume… there was booing. When I realised I switched the telly off.
‘Honestly, I couldn’t have been more disappointed. This is not us.
‘This boy… I was there, every day, he gave everything, every day he gave absolutely everything.
‘Now he’s decided after 20 years at this club he wants to go somewhere else, if someone should be angry about that it’s the owners but they are not.
‘Why he didn’t sign, I hear this – ‘it’s a money discussion, he owes Liverpool a transfer fee’, the player can be angry, not us.
‘He gave absolutely everything, he wears the Liverpool badge in the skin.’
