While most of the Philly fan base chastised the Green Bay Packers for pushing a vote on the Tush Push, the Philadelphia Eagles learned the reality of the situation over the last few months regarding their "unstoppable" quarterback sneak.
We can tell you it was Commissioner Roger Goodell who - for whatever reason - wanted the play actually banned from the league. Green Bay was just used to push the ban forward so any blowback wouldn't be centering around one owner (as the Packers are famously "owned'' in group form.)
With the ban proposal failing at league meetings on Wednesday, though, the Eagles have come away as major winners of the offseason - just a couple months after winning Super Bowl LIX.
Now, plenty of the current Eagles have been left celebrating the decision. At the top of the list is running back Saquon Barkley. The All-Pro and 2,000-yard running back spoke on the "Exciting Mics" podcast with teammates Reed Blankenship and Cooper DeJean to talk about what he would say to Goodell about the play if he was given the chance to speak to the commissioner.
"It's going to be less than 30 (seconds)," Barkley said when asked about the Tush Push. "Everybody can do it, there's no health issue, and why are we talking about the 'Tush Push'? (as opposed to), 'Let's make sure that everybody's contracts are guaranteed.
"That'd be my thing. That don't bother you guys? Like baseball players and basketball players their contracts are guaranteed."
Goodell's demand against the Tush Push didn't work. Now, it's clear he isn't looking to see the Eagles be as successful as they have been.
And that has left the organization bring an "us against the world" mentality moving forward. ... with Saquon's not-so-subtle suggestion about a dollars and sense idea for the players.
