For a majority of the 2024 regular season, the Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Jalen Hurts drew criticism from most every corner of the NFL.
Then the playoffs came and while they weren't always a breeze for Hurts, the signal-caller was a key part in helping the Eagles claim their second Super Bowl title in franchise history.
Hurts' performance as Super Bowl MVP was stellar throughout, and should have ended any debate on the level of quarterbacking he can be expected to put forth.
Not every analyst has been impressed since that performance, though.
Despite Hurts' success, NBC analyst and former quarterback Chris Simms used this week to cast another shadow on Hurts as a signal-caller this year.
“We have a little bit of revisionist history here. He won the Super Bowl, and everybody just forgot about the 10 weeks before that,” Simms said. “His top receiver said 'What's wrong with the team? The passing game.' How can you now be one of the best quarterbacks in the game?”
To say Simms' comments represent football insanity would be an understatement.
This is an analyst trying to gloss over the fact that the Eagles' quarterback outdueled Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. ... as if he's ignoring that Hurts did win Super Bowl MVP in that same game.
Hurts answered any and all questions he has been forced to carry throughout his career last year. He is one of the winningest quarterbacks in the modern game, and has a Super Bowl ring in his first four years of being a starter. Very few quarterbacks have that on their resume alone.
Simms can pose and ponder all the questions he wants, but to gloss over the literal Super Bowl MVP may be one of the dumber things he has tried to do to give a reason why people should not be high on Hurts in 2025.
