GRAND CHUTE, Wis. (WBAY) - At the 25th iteration of the Green Bay Charity Softball Game, the quarterback room stole the show as Jordan Love raised money for his Hands of 1ove Foundation.
The event kicked off with the home run derby, where Love led off with 3 home runs. His backup Malik Willis took over the top spot after hitting 5 over the fence. In the end, the newest quarterback on the team, Taylor Elgersma, came away with the trophy after belting 6 home runs.
As for the game itself, the teams were split between members of the Packers’ offense and defense. Both were held scoreless across the first three innings. In the sixth, the defense found themselves trailing by a run before rookie safety Johnathan Baldwin hit a 2-run home run for the lead.
The offense responded in the bottom of the frame, where Willis belted a 2-run go-ahead home run. Elgersma added on with a solo home run to bring it to the 6-4 final score.
“Another amazing year,” Jordan Love said. “Every year I’ve been out here it’s been an awesome turnout from the fans, another one to really get this thing going and drive the event. It’s been awesome. No wonder all the quarterbacks showed out. We’re the best athletes on the team. No surprise, no biggie.”
“I love that (quarterback) room,” Elgersma said. “Jordan, Sean (Clifford), Malik, me. I mean, I think we have an outstanding room. Love being with those guys every day and learning from them. Pretty cool to come out here and have a good showing in the softball game, too.”
“It pays to go last so you know how many you need to hit,” Willis said regarding Elgersma’s victory in the home run derby. “I mean, you don’t wanna just continue to hit and hit and hit. But that was a great job by Taylor. I’m happy he won one.”
