Khvicha Kvaratskhelia names shock Liverpool ace as toughest defender he's faced this season, it's not Virgil van Dijk

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia is a player who has been highly regarded across the footballing world for some time now with Liverpool even being linked with a move for the attacker in January.

Indeed, Kvaratskhelia has always been a rather impressive player, but his time with Napoli is where he really came into his own.

His performances in Naples earned him enough credit to finally get a big money move to Paris Saint-Germain where he has since thrived.

In fact, Kvaratskhelia was part of the team that saw Liverpool get knocked out of the Champions League in the Round of 16.

And, it was in those games where the Georgia international said that he came against his toughest opponent this season.

Kvicha Kvaratskhelia names Trent Alexander-Arnold as the toughest defender he’s faced

Most don’t associate a high level of defending with Trent Alexander-Arnold but seemingly, Kvaratskhelia has experienced something that fans must have missed.

Because, while speaking to Rio Ferdinand on his Rio Meets Podcast, the attacker named Alexander-Arnold as his toughest opponent this term.

“Here in France there are good defenders, they are fast and are really difficult to play [against] but I think [Trent] Alexander-Arnold is a very good player,” he said.

Liverpool will miss Trent Alexander-Arnold next season

As much as it hurts fans to say, Alexander-Arnold will be missed around the Liverpool camp next season.

The right-back has been one of the Anfield outfit’s most important players over the last few seasons and while the way he left Liverpool will sting for a while, his presence on the pitch will be missed even more.

Granted, Jeremie Frimpong is making his way to Liverpool as his replacement, but it remains to be seen whether the Dutchman will have what it takes to live up to Alexander-Arnold’s standards.

Player Games Goals Assists

Jeremie Frimpong 48 5 12

Trent Alexander-Arnold 43 4 8

The 2024-25 seasons of Jeremie Frimpong and Trent Alexander-Arnold in numbers.

On paper, Frimpong seems to be the better player on the attack but with how high the former Manchester City man plays up the pitch, you’d expect him to have a higher amount of goal contributions.

Only time will tell whether Liverpool’s move for Frimpong will pay off, but at the moment, it feels like a pretty decent trade, even if Alexander-Arnold is set to leave for nothing.
