Oliver Glasner could be the man to replace Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham as an update on ongoing contract talks emerges.

While Postecoglou ended Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought by winning the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday (21 May), the Australian is not out of the woods yet, with Daniel Levy continuing to survey his list of potential replacements.

Postecoglou was near perfect with his game management in Tottenham’s 1-0 victory against Manchester United in the Europa League final at the Estadio de San Mamés.

His choice to play a three-man midfield of Rodrigo Bentancur, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma suffocated United, while transitioning to a back-five for the final minutes stamped out the Red Devils’ attacks.

However, Spurs’ historically poor Premier League form this season could mean Postecoglou is still replaced.

Glasner in contract talks with Crystal Palace

Tottenham were not the only club to make history recently, with Glasner guiding Crystal Palace to their first major trophy as the Eagles beat Manchester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday (17 May).

Glasner’s current contract at Selhurst Park runs until 2026, and it has been widely reported that Crystal Palace are in talks with the Austrian over a new deal.

Palace owner Steve Parish has insisted that Glasner will remain with the Eagles next season.

However, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the 50-year-old would accept an offer from Tottenham.

“If Postecoglou does go, I could still see Glasner as his replacement,” Wenham said.

“No disrespect to Crystal Palace, but a move to Tottenham, who can now offer UEFA Champions League football, is a massive step. His first official game could be the UEFA Super Cup; it is a huge step.

“However, if Tottenham want to appoint Glasner, they will need to move sharpish after news of those contract talks. That means a decision needs to be made on Postecoglou. I do think Glasner would be an outstanding appointment if it were to happen.”

Tottenham should stick with Postecoglou

If an option to replace Postecoglou does not become viable over the next few weeks, Tottenham would be better off sticking with the Australian coach.

Despite a disappointing Premier League season, Postecoglou has proven that he has what it takes to win at the highest level of football.

With a Champions League spot secured for next season, Spurs will need to recruit in the summer transfer window, and as the days continue to tick by, they may not have much longer to settle on a replacement.
