Liverpool could agree a £19million move to sign Lyon winger Rayan Cherki this summer after he confirmed his desire to leave Ligue 1.
Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed what sources have told him about the 21-year-old’s future.
While there is interest from Anfield, Cherki is not top of their list of targets and will only be considered if they miss out on a deal for Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.
Instead, the likes of Man United, Tottenham and Aston Villa are keen to bring him to England and face rival interest from Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.
This comes after former United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Man United have been alerted to Cherki’s availability alongside European rivals.
With just one year remaining on his contract come June, the France international’s future is set to be a major talking point ahead of the transfer window.

Liverpool race Man United in new Rayan Cherki update
Football Insider revealed on 20 May that Liverpool will only sign Cherki if they sell one of their current forwards, amid interest in Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez.
The winger has recently earned his maiden France call-up after an impressive season which saw him score 12 goals and provide 20 assists across 44 appearances in all competitions.
O’Rourke explained that Lyon’s £19million asking price is seen as a good fee, but Arne Slot‘s side are prioritising other targets before they set their sights on Cherki.
“*He’s available for a good fee, around £19million,*” he told Football Insider.
“The player has confirmed his wish to leave the French club this summer and it does seem that he will probably end up leaving French football in general.
“If Liverpool weren’t to land Florian Wirtz, maybe Rayan Cherki could come up as a potential target,.
“There will be interest from Man United, Tottenham and Aston Villa who all like him, and there’ll be interest from other top leagues as well.
“Borussia Dortmund have held a long-term interest in him and AC Milan are also interested.
“I don’t think he’s probably top of Liverpool’s list right now, but that might change if they miss out on another target.”

Luis Diaz exit update emerges after ‘huge’ Barcelona offer
Slot’s transfer team are not only focused on incoming players this summer, with a number of first-team stars also linked with moves away from Anfield.
Football Insider revealed on 23 May that Liverpool will accept “huge” offers for Diaz amid speculation surrounding interest from Barcelona.
Talks have been ongoing about a potential new deal, with his current contract set to run until 2027, but if an agreement cannot be reached offers will be considered.
This comes after Football Insider revealed on 14 April that Liverpool will consider mega-money offers for Diaz, with £60million likely to be enough to reach an agreement.
